More strangers in the cave again
I must be too old now to stop them...
and recently, a lot have stayed.
Must be four hundred who could kill me!

They’re beginning to perspire;
they’re too near the fire,
back here I’m freezing!
These are wonderful friends,
I’m hopeful for humanity,
these could become men - if there’s any left…

Some lurk around the water hole,
some scratch around for roots and berries.
When the night closes out the light-machine,
they crash in, snarling - empty-handed!

Now, I’m getting the scent
of a roasting rodent (!)
…they could be eating?
They won’t give me some now,
I’ll steal it somehow
while they are sleeping...if there’s any left!
